Seeing the light – comet NEOWISE
Comets have been seen as bad omens and harbingers of doom throughout much of history. Our understanding of the universe has certainly improved since then, but with the 2020 global pandemic turning out the way is has, perhaps the old tales have some merit after all.
Captured at 1am on July 20th, this shot of comet Neowise rising over the church at Welburn shows the two tails of the comet nicely. The foreground streaks are tail lights of passing cars adding some contrasting colour to the scene.
Image details: Nikon D5500, Nikkor 35mm f1.8G at f1.8. 15 seconds (foreground) and 60 seconds (stars) tracked with AstroTrac TT320X-AG at iso 800.
