Saturn at opposition

A clear night and a ridge of high pressure is a rare event in England. I made the most of the above average seeing conditions, with Jupiter just 1 day from opposition. Despite being severly undermounted on my AstroTrac TT320X-AG unguided star tracker, I was determined to test out my newly acquired 8″ f4 newtonian telescope. Using a ZWO red filter gave the best views I’ve ever seen of the planet, with the Cassini division clearly visible, cloud bands and even the faint inner ‘C’ ring making an appearance on the final stacked image.

Image details: Taken 4th October 2026 at 1:20am with Altair 8″ f4 Newtonian and 2x barlow, ZWO RGB filters and ToupTek G3M 678M monochrome camera – 9000 frames (10% stacked) at 28ms / gain 2000. Tracked with AstroTrac TT320X-AG. Captured with SharpCap, aligned in PIPP, stacked in AutoStakkert!, processed in ImPPG and Photoshop.
